Printing Methods
We offer several unique and high quality printing methods, including Flex, Flock, Specialty Flex and Digital Direct. Almost all of our designs are created specially for Flex Printing.
What is Flex?
Flex is a printing technique where the design is cut from a colored foil and then pressed onto the shirt under high heat. Some flex printing features are:
Vibrant colors
The printed colors have a slight shine to them and contrast extremely well with fabric.
Longevity and durability
Tests have shown that the form and color of the flex print barely change after 100 washes. It is made of a flexible and resilient material – even thin lines do not break.
What is Flock?
Flock is a printing technique where the design is cut from a colored foil and then pressed onto the shirt under high heat. Flock printing features:
Elegant appearance
A flock print has a velvety, fuzzy surface. The foil (0.5 mm) is somewhat thicker than flex, which causes the design to appear slightly elevated from the apparel and results in the plush feel. The colors have a soft glow to them.
Longevity and durability
Flock designs retain their vibrant color after many washes.
What is Specialty Flex?
Specialty flex prints differ from normal flex prints due to the special visual effects in the printing foils and can only be printing on one color designs.
Glitter and Glitz
Designs printed with these foils glisten and reflect light. The glitz foil is a very fine mix of the foil color’s spectrum from darker to very shiny particles. It shines and glistens intensely, especially as light catches it at different angles. The glitter foil has a mixture of the main color and a touch of silver glitter – this gives the main color a contrasting and intense glitter effect, with less glistening as glitz.
Glow-in-the-dark, Reflective and Camo
In addition to the glitter and sparkle foils, we also offer a glow-in-the-dark foil, a silver reflective foil and a camo foil.
Longevity and durability
Designs with specialty flex prints retain their vibrant color and glisten even after many washes.
What is Digital Direct?
Digital printing is the ideal printing technique for photos and colorful designs which have gradients. This printing technique does not last as long as flex and flock. The colors fade over time.
Digital printing is sub-divided into three different techniques: Digital Direct, Digital Transfer and Digital Transfer Overlay.
Digital Direct
- The print is sprayed directly onto the apparel. Therefore, the design feels softer and is more comfortable to wear than Digital Transfer.
- Digital Direct works well with large designs, however the colors fade after the first few washes. This printing technique is optimal if a “vintage” look is desired. The design looks somewhat washed-out and vibrant colors are not to be expected.
- Digital Direct is a relatively new printing technique, therefore we are not able to print on all of our products.
Digital Transfer and Digital Transfer Overlay
- The design is first printed onto a transfer paper before it is pressed onto the shirt. Digital Transfer Overlay prints can be cut to the exact shape of the design or photo. Digital Transfer prints will have a thin line around the design. Click here for more information about transfer printing.
- Compared to Digital Direct, the Digital Transfer and Digital Transfer Overlay designs are truer to the original color and more durable.
- Digital Transfer Overlay can be printed on all fabric colors. However, Digital Transfer designs can only be printed on white and some natural products.
